Excerpt from my Trauma and Recovery Guide for victims of Sexual Abuse
I am writing this book for any child or adult, female or male, who has ever been abused in any way – whether sexually assaulted, raped, physically abused, or the victim of an incestuous relationship. There are many important aspects to being a victim of any form of sexual assault: our own lives become unimportant, we don’t get to grieve the loss of our innocence (from any kind of sexual assault), or the emotional pain and upheaval in our lives, as well as increased anxiety. I could go on and on here. I can work with such victims based on my formal training, learning from working with victims as a police officer, and the practical experience of helping people rid themselves of the memory and emotions attached to such acts of terror.
Today in our practice, we follow a protocol to help lessen the impact upon someone who has been victimized. We explain to the client, tell us the story as though you are watching the event being played in front of you like a video. This dissociation process lessens the emotional impact upon our client, and at times if the emotional impact is still a struggle, we use a process to further disassociate themselves from the event sometimes as much as three times over. We also listen for clarity and richness to detail in the event and the scenery in and around it. The clarity of the memory and the richness of detail provides us with the severity of the memory. This provides us the insight into how best to disassociate the client.
I see this as PTSD, which is a very complicated trauma with many unusual behaviors, many of which are entangled and further complicated by many painful memories and equally complicated treatment programs. I do believe it can be reasonably healed without the complications, while the use of our strategies to cope, manage and deal with it will provide the sufferer with relief and a respite from this twisted life of torment, which destroys our families and us. By diligently working through our workbook, excellent results can be obtained.
I can show you how to undertake the journey to heal.
