Extroverts and Introverts in Relationships - What are you? The Extrovert Let’s say that you are the life-of-the-party, an extroverted mid-20s woman who just loves being around people. This approach to life sustains you in many ways and you have many friends, and you do your best to connect with them on a regular basis; and you get together three or four times a month with the ones who live near to you. You share a spacious, well-located home with your significant other (S/O) of two years. You regularly host dinner parties, barbeques, and … [Read more...]
A Response to “What About Depression?”
Following the posting of my October 28, 2014 blog posting titled What About Depression?, I received the following response from a long-time friend. This is his personal journey. George, This is a topic that has always been important to me as I have experienced depression at different times during my life. At one stage it was so bad that I attempted suicide and required a stay at a hospital plus 6 months of therapy from a professional therapist. I was placed on 2 different medications during this period, an upper in the mornings and a downer … [Read more...]
What About Depression?
Like so many others, I have experienced depression. At times, my depression greatly interfered with my work, home, and social lives. And although I’ve always done a lot of writing it wasn’t a particularly therapeutic exercise. How could it be? My writing, like my approach to life, was often about how unfair life was… to other people. Yes, I wrote as though I was okay but was really concerned for those “others”. I did not want to appear to be the whiner I actually was inside my head. I later learned that this kind of behavior only serves to … [Read more...]
Age Regression Through Hypnosis
Let us look at a controversial therapy topic: age regression through hypnosis. There are opinions on all sides of this topic, from so-called experts and people who just believe or disbelieve in the process. My experience with age regression came during my hypnotherapy training and we used it to an apparent good effect, whereby clients were able to resolve/solve issues/problems that were holding them back or interfering with their health and/or happiness. However, we never concerned ourselves with the arguments about whether or not the age … [Read more...]
Everybody Needs Control
Everybody Needs Control We try to control ourselves, people and situations to meet our needs or to get what we want. Often we are not aware that we are doing this. We may walk to the shop to buy something we want but be unaware of our surroundings as we walk down the street. Indeed, we may be "a million miles away" in our minds, daydreaming about something but still end up in the shop we wanted to go to: we were able to control our direction and our walking even though we were not aware of what we were doing! Everybody needs a certain amount … [Read more...]
Taking Responsibility For Our Actions
When do we start taking responsibility for our own actions? It appears that we no longer own our actions. Owning our actions involves taking personal responsibility for what we do. Why is it that when something goes wrong, we need some place to lay the blame? Part of being a mature, responsible adult is to know that when we make a decision in life we are responsible for the outcome, not someone else. Let’s look at the following examples: A married man goes out and has an affair. He blames his wife for not satisfying his needs in bed. … [Read more...]
